Chemical leak at Lake Mary water treatment plant fixed, official says

LAKE MARY, Fla. - A chemical leak at the Lake Mary water treatment plant has been fixed and the plant is fully operational, the Lake Mary Fire Department said Friday afternoon.

A chemical leak was reported shortly after 6 a.m. on Friday at the water treatment plant on Rinehart Road. Hydrogen peroxide was leaking out of one of the tanks at the treatment plant, officials said.

Shortly after 2 p.m., a spokesperson for the fire department said the issue had fixed and that the water treatment plant was fully operational. The cause of the link is currently unknown and will be investigated, an official said.

Officials said Friday morning that there were no immediate dangers to the public and that the city's water quality was not impacted.

Multiple agencies, including a Seminole County hazmat team, are working at the scene of a potentially dangerous chemical spill at the Lake Mary Water Treatment Plant.

Chief Johansmeyer said reverse 911 calls were sent out Friday morning to people who live nearby the treatment plant to provide updates on the situation and what is going on.

SKYFOX video showed several emergency crews and personnel at the water treatment plant.

The plant is located about a half-mile away from Crystal Lake Elementary.
