McCall, ID issues request to reduce irrigation activities due to water treatment plant failure

The City of McCall issued an emergency request to water customers urging them to reduce irrigation watering immediately.

This comes after a mechanical failure occurred at the City of McCall’s Water Treatment Plant on July 28. A news release from the city said the failure compromised water flow and pressure within the distribution center.

The request applies to all businesses, residents, and institutions within the city. The city is asking that irrigation watering be reduced to the maximum extent until further notice.

City officials say it’s important that residents follow this request to help avoid the need for a city-wide boil order.

“By adhering to this crucial water conservation measure, residents will play a vital role in ensuring sufficient water pressure and flows are maintained solely for essential domestic uses. Compliance with this urgent request is instrumental in preventing further deterioration of the system pressure and flows,” the news release said.

The Public Works Water Department is working on the mechanical issues at the water treatment plant. When the repairs are complete, customers will be notified and can restart alternating day irrigation activity. The release said this is in line with the city’s alternate-day sprinkling ordinance.

“Our city public works and water team sincerely value the cooperation and patience of our residents during this time of repair and restoration,” the city’s communication manager, Erin Greaves said.

Residents can stay up to date on this issue through the city’s website, text notifications, or by following the city’s social media pages.
